Supervision for   Internationally 
Qualified Occupational Therapists

Internationally qualified occupational therapists who intend on migrating to Australia to practice as an Occupational Therapist must undergo a skills assessment conducted by the Occupational Therapy Council of Australia Ltd (OTC). This assessment is a prerequisite for applying for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) in order to practice as an Occupational Therapist in Australia.

 

The OTC evaluates the suitability of occupational therapy skills based on the requirements established by them, categorising them as either "suitable" or "not suitable" for migration purposes.

This assessment you undergo with OTC has two stages. 

 

Stage 1: Desktop audit which, on completion provides you with limited registration to practice in Australia

Stage 2: Supervised practice audit. Supervision as a minimum, it is expected the supervisor provides weekly supervision (preferably face-to-face, however telephone or Skype or similar is acceptable) with the practitioner for the first six weeks to implement the supervised practice plan and to assess competence. During the first six weeks, there must be four sessions of direct practice observation by the supervisor during the assessment and clinical interventions stages.
